Chez Reavie Has First PGA Tour Win in Canadian Open
July 2008 by Randy · Leave a Comment
With the victory, his first on the PGA Tour at 17-under par, Chez Reavie’s life changes.
Reavie won $900,000 (U.S.), secured his job on the PGA Tour through 2010 and gained entry into the PGA Championship next month, the 2009 Masters and other future high-end golf tournaments.
When asked what he planned to buy first after his $900,000 windfall in the Canadian Open, Chez Reavie said:
“I have no idea,” the 26-year-old PGA Tour rookie said. “I’m sure I’ll find something nice back home, if my fiancee doesn’t spend it before I get home.”
Amanda Henrichs’ spending spree probably won’t include a bigger wedding.
“It can’t be any bigger,” Reavie said. “I picked a good spot where we couldn’t fit too many people. I’m sure she’ll find something else she wants, though.”
Reavie won the national championship Sunday for his first PGA Tour title, closing with a 1-under 70 on a welcome rain-free afternoon for a three-stroke victory over Billy Mayfair at soggy Glen Abbey.
“Oh, man. I’m just so excited,” Reavie said. “I don’t think a lot of people understand when you’re growing up and you’re practicing and you’re working so hard, this is, obviously, your goal, but there are no guarantees.”
Chris Evert Cheers on Hubby Greg Norman Who Wows Fans at British Open

Behind every good man-golfer is a good woman.
Forget all the details of their drama-filled divorces, it is nice to see Chris Evert cheering her man on.
I’ve always liked Greg Norman and it is nice to see him playing so well in the British Open in Southport, England this week. Norman, who recently married tennis great Chris Evert had an impressive opening day.
Paula Creamer is Pretty in Pink - and Can Kick Your Butt on the Golf Course

You’ve got to love a woman golfer who wears pink, and can also kick your butt on the golf course.
Paula is nicknamed the “Pink Panther” for the color she often wears and pink golf balls. Creamer finished second on the LPGA money list in 2005, and in 2007 was third. In the Women’s World Golf Rankings she has been as high as number two, and as of July 2008 is in the top five.
Kenny Perry Now Second Benind Tiger in FedEx Cup Standings
July 2008 by Randy · Leave a Comment
Kenny Perry beat Jay Williamson and Brad Adamonis in a playoff Sunday to win the John Deere Classic Sunday in Silvis, Ill.
Perry had a one-stroke lead through 17, only to lose it after poor shots from the fringe on the final hole of regulation. He and Williamson then watched as Adamonis, the PGA Tour’s oldest rookie at 35, missed an 18-foot birdie that would have won it in regulation and given him his first victory.
How-to Use Hybrid Golf Clubs

I like Johnny Miles (Director of Golf Operations at Lake Powell National Golf Course in Arizona) because of his no nonsense, down-home instruction and help. His tips are great and this one about hybrid golf clubs is a good one.
Johnny says: “I’m going to talk about right now are some clubs that most people don’t like. It’s really not because they’re that much harder to hit than a wedge, it’s just that it take a little more confidence, a little practice to hit them. There are the 3, the 4, and the 5 hundred. We won’t even talk about the 200 and 100 because they’re history now.
These golf clubs are a little flatter. They don’t have as much loft as let’s say the pitching wedge obviously. As a result, you’re going to have greater dispersion, and two, people get the feeling they have to help them up. No, you just have to brush the grass. Even if I went out and I showed you how to hit these golf clubs a little better, let me show you a better golf club to hit to take their place. You see them all over the place. They’re a rage, it’s called the hybrid. You can call it a hybrid wood; you can call it a hybrid iron.”
How-to Use Hybrid Golf Clubs
Miles said: “Irons and woods are all the same thing; they’re all mass x velocity squared, just like I said in the distance tip. This golf club is revolutionizing the game for a lot of players. It’s got a little thinner face on it; it’s got a lower center gravity. It’s got greater mass, so it’s more forgiving.
Gets the ball up really easy, and you can hit out of heavy rough. I’d like to see you hit a 3 iron out of heavy rough. Maybe Tiger Woods and a few of those guys on the tour can, but if you look in their bags, you’re going to see hybrids. Go into your golf shop, have your golf professional tape up a hybrid and test it out.
You’re going to be amazed. If you pick the right special, you might get a dozen Taylor Made balls, a dozen Titleist, or a dozen Callaway to go along with it. But the hybrid makes the game easy, and they replace the long irons, the more difficult clubs to hit. So take a tip from the pro and check out the hybrids.”

Golf Swing Tips - Part 1
July 2008 by Randy · Leave a Comment
Johnny Miles, who is the Director of Golf Operations at Lake Powell National Golf Course in Arizona shares this tip that breaks your golf swing down into two simple parts. Johnny has helped many improve their golf game and brings a wealth of knowledge and to the gold world.
There are two parts to the golf swing: the backswing and the forward swing. Learn more and get expert tips and techniques on how to improve your golf swing in this free golfing instruction video.
Here is an important golf swing tip that helps you keep things simple:
Johnny says:
“How difficult can we make the game? Well, most players can make it pretty difficult.
You ask most players how many parts of the golf swing are, and they’ll name 4 or 5. When in fact there are only 2.
How simple can that be? Golf: all you have to do is aim the club, square your body.
The hands and the club start it back and it goes behind your shoulder, and you don’t want a lot of tension in your arms. That’s why you don’t have a straight left arm. So the hands and the club start it back. It just goes behind your shoulders and your body follows your arms. You’ve just completed half the golf swing. It’s pretty simple.
Second part: you take your arms and you’re going to swing the club at your target, and you’re going to allow your body to follow your arms so there is no down swing. There’s only a back swing and a forward swing. When we talk about the arms, let’s keep that simple too. It’s just from your elbow to your shoulder. This is my forearm; this is my hand; that’s just linkage. It only does what my arm tells it to do.
This is another secret in golf. What do you turn a steering wheel with? Definitely not your hands. What do you move a steak knife with. Your arm. Put your arm to your side, you’re going to look like an idiot at the dinner table.
Now, golf: let’s keep it simple. Hands in club start it back, use your arms, swing the club at the target. Now, let’s make it really simple. Let’s end all those top shots. You can look up on a golf ball and you can’t get underneath it, so if you really want to play good golf, try this. Thrust the grass as you swing the club at your target.
So there’s only 2 parts: backswing and a forward swing. If you want to by like Tiger Woods, do what Tiger Woods does, 2 parts to the golf swing.”
Rave Reviews for Nike Slingshot Hybrid Golf Clubs
June 2008 by Randy · Leave a Comment
Nike Slingshot hybrids and Slingshot fairway wood clubs are finding their way into the bags of more and more pro golfers. This is not because of Tiger, but because of the rave reviews they are getting and their performance on the course.
The Slingshot Hybrid come in lofts of 2 (17 degrees), 3 (20 degrees), 4 (23 degrees), 5 (26 degrees), and 6 (30 degrees) replacing long to mid-irons and even a 5-wood. Shaft weights are 92 grams in regular flex, 93 grams in stiff flex, and 97 grams in extra-stiff. All lofts are available in left handed versions.
A 55 year old golfer, with a handicap or 18, got the Nike Slingshot fairway woods (18, 21 and 24 degrees) to replace his long irons. With the the 18 degrees Slingshot wood, he can hit an average of 180 yards and says: “These clubs are extremely forgiving because the sweet spot is lower and the club head has a wider sole. Now I don’t even care to use my regular fairway woods 3 and 5. This is a must buy for golfers with a 15+ handicap.”
I’ve been researching these clubs online and have found nothing but good things from golfers who use them. There are a lot of comments like these:
King Cobra S9 Irons

The King Cobra engineers made the award-winning S9 irons even better.
The expanded three-piece polymer topline and urethane sole insert optimize discretionary weighting for a lower CG and higher MOI. This gives you higher launch, greater distance, and more accuracy. When you combine that with the club’s low profile and wide sole with a chamfer relief design - and you gain improved versatility and more forgiveness.

Gone With the Win - Tiger Woods Out for a Year After Winning US Golf Open

Tiger Woods out is our of the game for year after winning US Open…on one leg.
You’ve got to be impressed with his performance and can’t help but wonder how much better he would have played without the knee injury.
Tiger Pays the Price
On Wednesday, Woods revealed details on his web site, and announced he would not play again this year because he needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his troubled left knee. He also has a double stress fracture in his left tibia.
This upcoming surgery will be Woods’ third procedure on his knee in the last five years.
Tiger said: “While I am obviously disappointed to have to miss the remainder of the season, I have to do the right thing for my long-term health and look forward to returning to competitive golf when my doctors agree that my knee is sufficiently healthy,” said Woods, who has not yet set a date for the procedure. “My doctors assure me with the proper rehabilitation and training the knee will be strong, and there will be no long-term effects.”
Will we, golf junkies that we are, watch golf as much as we do until then? It is going to be a long wait at Tiger misses the rest of the season, and the media is already speculating if
